Strain is low, but I feel tired - why?

In short, Strain reflects cardiovascular load, not overall fatigue. Mental load, sleep debt, or local muscle fatigue can be high while Strain stays low.

A common situation: the tracker shows Strain 5 to 8, but you still feel tired. There were no intense workouts, the day felt calm, yet the energy is low. The number does not match the feeling because Strain only tracks heart rate zones.

What Strain does not reflect

Mental load. A dense workday, conflict, or constant decisions can be tiring even if heart rate stays low.

Local muscle fatigue. Heavy strength work with low repetitions can leave muscles and the nervous system tired without a high heart rate response.

Short sleep. A few nights of short or restless sleep can accumulate fatigue while Strain stays low.

Time frame

One day. A one day mismatch is common and does not form a pattern.

Several days. If it repeats for several days, it often points to non training factors like sleep or stress rather than a problem with the workout load.

A week or more. A longer stretch usually looks like a stable background rather than a single day issue.

Connection with other metrics

If Strain is low but fatigue is present, Recovery and HRV sometimes show the same background. If those are also lower, it usually points to the overall rhythm rather than the training itself. If those look normal and fatigue is still present, it often means the tracker is missing part of the picture.
